For Consumers
What products are certifed "natural"?
Today, 63% of people are more conscious of the natural ingredients that go into personal care products than five years ago. These enlightened consumers, like you, are one reason we, at the Natural Products Association (NPA), believe establishing a definition of natural personal care products is so important. And it's why we're giving you the information to understand what our standard for "natural" really means. Here are a few things you can do to educate yourself and ensure your well-being.
Look for the Natural Products Association certification seal
You can be sure that personal care products carrying the Natural Products Association's Natural Seal are have achieved a high benchmark. That's because to use the seal, products must meet and be certified under the association's standard for personal care products, a strict set of guidelines that define what natural is and what it isn't.
Read labels
The ones on the back of the package are especially important. If you see ingredients like parabens and other "non-natural" ingredients explained on this website, then the product does not meet our standard.
Do your own research
Not everyone is going to automatically agree on what we believe is natural. Therefore, we encourage you to do your own research. Do searches on some of the questionable ingredients and processes that are outlined in Natural Products Association Standard for Personal Care Products. Then decide for yourself.
Ask These 5 Questions
We encourage you to contact the makers of personal care products with "natural" labels and see how they answer these 5 important questions.
